Marini XPRESS lands on the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia
The XPRESS 2500 batch plant has flanked the other plants in the area to meet the significant demands of supply for the redevelopment, the paving and restructuring of the runway at the Costa Smeralda airport.

The Italian airport of Olbia on the Costa Smeralda is one of three international terminals on the island of Sardinia and it counts the highest number of passengers arriving from abroad, especially during the summer months. Famous for its crystal clear emerald sea, the Costa Smeralda is considered the most exclusive locality in the north east of Sardinia, with its luxury homes, social events and a landscape of inestimable naturalistic value.
Between February and March, Olbia airport was closed to air traffic for just over a month, for resurfacing work and the construction of a 300-metre runway extension, plus redevelopment of the passenger terminal and the aircraft parking stands.
XPRESS 2500 READY FOR THE CHALLENGE
Taking part in the challenge is Pavimental’s latest acquisition - the XPRESS 2500, a plant produced in Italy by Marini, fully mobile and self-erecting, with a nominal asphalt production of 200 tph. This asphalt plant has the special quality of easy transfer on wheels and is the best solution for short-term working sites with transfer on demand, thanks also to its simple and speedy erection.
THE RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN ECOLOGY AND PROFITABILITY
No limit exists, not even for the management of the recycled materials, given the possibility of RAP metering into the dryer drum ring or directly into the mixer. The combination of both technologies allows use of up to 35-40% RAP, with performances comparable to a traditional fixed system but with the advantage of total transferability!
THE MARINI AND PAVIMENTAL PARTNERSHIP
To ensure the timely supply of asphalt, the plant was installed directly on site at the airport. During a Marini technical visit, we met Gianluca Cangemi, the engineer in charge of the Pavimental site who gave us the following comments:
“The choice fell on the Marini ‘XPRESS mobile plant because of its capacity to produce the amounts necessary for the work requirements together with its flexibility, that will allow it to be installed at other sites where Pavimental is doing airport work. As well as in Rome, we are currently working in Naples and there are other horizons, other sites of interest in the airport infrastructure that are characterized by large investments. ".
The standards both in terms of plant efficiency and the characteristics of the end product were a fundamental component in the choice.

The XPRESS 2500 batch plant has flanked the other plants in the area to meet the significant demands of supply, producing around a third of the 70,000 tons of asphalt needs for the redevelopment, the paving and restructuring of the runway at the Costa Smeralda airport.
